Thanks for the compliment Bill. The pins came with the clevis's and can be easily changed to a cotter pin style. I may do that although I have never lost one on anything I have used them on over the years. I'm just glad the brakes are done.Bill Shields wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 11:40 pm Odyknuck
You have certainly stepped up your game regarding clearance improvement. You do nice work.
I cannot say that given my personal choice, I would not use E clips on pins since I have seen cases where they have disappeared from where they were intended to be located.
When I was young, we used to call them "Jesus clips"

Could you try another 4032 x 3024 picture?
The new software is supposed to compress things now. I would like to see how it does.
Thank you!

Ok, I tried a pic right out of my photos, and it says file too large.
Re: Railroad Warehouse 2.8.2 Mikado Logger Build
This time I sized it to 2364 X 1773

Re: Railroad Warehouse 2.8.2 Mikado Logger Build
The last one compressed down to about 1 megabyte. I think that we can live with this.
By the way, the reason there is/was a restriction on dimensions is that the service provider I use provides a fixed amount of space...and the only way given by the phpbb folks to control size was by specifying dimensions. We had been getting close to running out of space.
The new software does a bit of compression on the jpegs so I think this will work.
I will appreciate smaller-sized pictures, but I will keep this setting and keep an eye on it!
Thanks for the help.

You're Welcome Mike. I will continue to resize the pics to a smaller aspect ratio.
Re: Railroad Warehouse 2.8.2 Mikado Logger Build
Been a few weeks since the last update. I have been working on the cross slides and discovered they were not within spec, so a lot of work needs done to get them there. The sliders machining was subpar, and nothing fit as it should, surprise! Tomorrow I am taking them to my buddies shop and fixing them on the surface grinder. We are also remaking the radius arm 1/2 pieces, Yay! Set that aside and installed the Snifter valves in the cylinders today. First thing I needed to do was square up the cylinder in the vise, so the Snifter was vertical. Then I located where to install them. I selected .425" from edge of existing steam supply line tapped hole. Set DRO to zero so all operations had a home point. I first used a 1/2" end mill to create a flat working condition. I drilled the holes in multiple stages, then tapped the 1/8" NPT required for the Snifter.

Thanks Russ, and also thanks for sharing your pics of what you did on your Mike as it was very helpful. When started installing these, my preface was a thru hole only the size of the Snifter valve I.D. however there was not enough material for tapping. I ended up drilling thru with the tap drill size. I still need to run a Hone thru them. Hopefully I have the right size arbor for my Sunnen Hone otherwise I will just use a brake cylinder hone as they only need to be deburred.
Re: Railroad Warehouse 2.8.2 Mikado Logger Build
After investing a lot of time trying to get my crossheads to work, I have decided to make new ones as the running surfaces are not parallel with the piston shaft. They are out by .015" over 2.5". The Piston shaft mounting hole is off center and on an angle. The PO tried to compensate by offsetting the machining the running surfaces. The 3 degree taper in the bore was pretty rough so I made up a honing shaft to clean them up however did not help the problem. My question is how stable is Bronze 954 when machining a lot of material from it.

Re: Railroad Warehouse 2.8.2 Mikado Logger Build
Decised to work on getting the cylinders and saddle installed on the frame. Before I could do that, I needed to do some port matching on the exhaust Manifolds. Rather than using a die grinder I used a 1/4" end mill. I clamped them in the vise on an angle and milled the first relief and then zeroed the DRO so all 4 ports were the same. Then rotated them 180 degrees and did the same. Then I lapped them on the surface plate to clean up any burrs.
