You nean the quick change gearbox on the lower left hand corner of the machine?
Picture?
Picture?
Too many things going on to bother listing them.

Blink. Blink.
Why should it? A leak exists because the required seal has been lost by some means. They generally don't "get better".

Re: Newbie getting in over my head?
Admittedly it has been years, but I have seen seals that begin leaking specifically because of changes in types of oil, or because of a oil change that flushes out crud that has been like the Dutch boy with his finger in the dike.
Since most of these gearboxes have a limited number of places that can leak...
I would first confirm that your sight glass is truly showing the true oil level. I had one of those that clogged and was not showing correct level ..hence I put way more oil in than necessary to show correct, and had lube running out of places that were unsealed since they were never intended to be submerged

I think the leak is coming from behind this front panel. I'll put it off when I get time to see what's going on.

Around the sight glass?

It's not dripping down the front of the panel, it's coming out just behind, on the bottom, roughly below the sight glass.

I had that problem and had to reseal with RTV

Re: Newbie getting in over my head?
Yes, it's the sight glass. Gotta figure out how to pop it out to fix the seal...
Edit: just bought this...https://www.ereplacementparts.com/oil-s ... 48659.html
It seems identical to the sight glass in my lathe.

Re: Newbie getting in over my head?
Mine came out with the edge of my pocket knife providing persuasion.
Original went back in, sealed with either RTV or non hardening permatex (do not remember which) -> and since no leaking, do not want to disturb. Think leak was not the glass per se, but crappy casting finish around the hole.

Re: Newbie getting in over my head?
I haven't messed with the machine in a while, but I've been working hard to get a proper 220V line out to the garage. 50' of trench. 6g wires laid from the house to garage. Ground rods driven into the ground. And today, $500 worth of electrical hardware purchased, to wire the garage! I'm committed now!
Re: Newbie getting in over my head?
You nailed it here, Bill. I removed the sight glass and the rubber bezel, sealing the sight glass, has shrunk. A little clear RTV is the play here. I've got some really nice Mil spec RTV, pilfered from where I work because the shelf life is "expired." Still perfectly fine for use, though.Bill Shields wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 4:40 am Mine came out with the edge of my pocket knife providing persuasion.
