Levil brand machines? USA made small lathes and mills

Post by Adirondack »

Hi folks. I'm more than a little intrigued by these machines. I wanted to know if there was any real-world feedback on them.

Please don't tell me to "get a Bridgeport". These smaller machines suit my space, my needs, and my power requirements. I currently have an Emco Compact 5 CNC PC and I'm looking to upgrade the shop to add a mill and perhaps a larger lathe.

See them here: http://www.leviltechnology.com/

Thanks

A little locomotive with 4 wheels on the track is a lot more fun
than a 1/2 finished one with 16 wheels on the bench!

Before you purchase anything from a company - strongly suggest you send them a typical sample part, have them do a time study and ask that they actually program and cut a part in front of a video cam for you.

This SHOULD be the best you will ever see from the machine....since they should know programming and machine limitations.

If it does what you want/expect then you have a data point from which to work that is not influenced by your experience or understanding/expectations
Too many things going on to bother listing them.

Thanks Bill, I like that idea. I'm sure if they want to make a sale, they would be willing to fulfill this simple request.

Its pretty clear that most of their focus is on the CNC education market which means most of their customers are colleges, universities and trade schools. I'm guessing that means their machines have pretty hefty price tags. The benchtop 3Axis cnc machine that I have had an original MSRP in the $25k ballpark and that was in 1994!

The Mill-Turn machine looks interesting but I question what amount of work envelope it actually provides and whether or not it it would actually be useful for "real world" parts.

Cutting customer sample parts is part of any bona fide machine tool sales force.
