Post by RSG »

Very happy with how this years reels turned out....my finishing is the best it's ever been thanks to the guys here on the forum helping me to understand finishing techniques on the lathe an mill and how important they are at that point. It sure saves lots of time.

Heh! Nothing I wouldn't expect from one who does exceptional work.

Well done, as usual.

Thanks for the comments!

Here's a pic that shows the back plate detail better, as the other pics seem to look washed out.

Thanks Partime!

Yes I am familiar with his reels. He built reels in BC before passing and used to reside here in Ontario. His reels were functional but not overly complex. Good work just the same.

I never met the man but have seen a few of his reels. As you say not as complex as what you are building. From what I understand they functioned well but as with everything new processes make what was, obsolete. I know a fellow who spent some time with him and purchased his machine tools.
I have always appreciated the efforts made by individuals. The willingness to try and the satisfaction of accomplishment. We see it in spades on this site.
Again beautiful work!

Those things are heirloom pieces. I'd be afraid to get one near water. Beautiful work.

Ya, I get that from about half the customers. Some fish them hard, others display them on the shelf and only hold them with gloves (which I still don't understand  )
