I would almost bet the horizontal, vents down thing is to keep water from a leaking pump out of the motor over any other reason. I'm willing to sit corrected if my thinking is wrong.

ah...well...that would probably not be a problem on a vertical mill.... :mrgreen:

but the fractional HP at 1750..... :(
