Update On My PRR K-4 Project

Post by ebtfan »

It has been a while since I posted any progress on my 1.5" K-4. I have just completed the running boards and most of the piping. I started this project in 2005 and have about 9000 hours invested at this point. I have probably over a year's work to complete the remaining details and painting. I have run the locomotive on the track four times, and it performs very well though the engineer is still learning. It is coal fired, has air brakes (electric pump in the tender and steam cross compound on the loco), and injectors for feed water to the boiler. I have attached a few recently taken photos and a link the engine in operation.

Hello Dan, She looks great, and sounds absolutely beautiful. I’ve been messing around for 22 years with mine. Finally took the advice of several friends and put the pieces together and enjoyed running it again this year. Keep up the good fight. Are you guys 7.5 or 7.25 in PA.

Most of PA is 7.25

Very nice job!

Is your compound looking pump an actual operating compound pump?
Too many things going on to bother listing them.

Thanks for the compliments all.
Vic - the PA Live Steamers are 7.25”. My locomotive is built for 7.5” track gauge. I hope to run at tracks west of PA that are all 7.5”.
Bill - the cross compound is operational.
Andy P. - I will see you at Cabin Fever

Looks like a Moes loco works pump. I think Dave Scalvi has one too. I remember him writing they need some fine tuning and machine work clean up to work right.

The world needs more K4s's. Superb model, and wishes that she'll serve you well.
