The old Yankee Shop Machinists catalog states: "We do not advise any track to be built with less than a 20 ft. radius."

I suspect a good rule of thumb is 25' radius for 3/4" engines.

After running 3/4-1” highlines over the last 30+ years ,and having my own backyard track I would recommend that anyone building a track stay in the 30’ to 35’ radius .that way you can run just about anything you decide to build or buy.having a 3/4 Raritan ,Virginia , friends Atlantic ,and a 3/4 pacific,as well as two 1” Atlantic’s They all run with no problems.larger 3/4 4-8-4 do have problems on these radius unless you open up the gauge by 1/8”
Just my recommendation ,build it once and have fun for a life time
