Hello My Friends
It's been a while since anything was posted on the American. Thank you RN, George doesn't plan on putting it in a museum, he wants to run it. He probably won't run it a lot, but I know it will be seen at LALS and Riverside live Steamers. And it will have the bobber caboose bringing up the end of the train. Here are a couple current photos. The first shows the engine with the early Westinghouse pump. The second shows the back head with the 1870's Westinghouse brake valve. This has been a very fun project and it's almost finished. The tender tank, and parts of the engine will be going out for striping and lettering soon.
See you in the funny pages...

Hello My Friends
Thank you RN. I can assure you that there is only one of me. I guess I was blessed with an abundance of energy and have always had trouble setting still, drove some of my teachers crazy when I was a youngster. If I was a kid in school today, I think they would dose with prozac and prop me up in the corner. Go with what you got!

Hello My Friends
Thank you very much for the compliment all10wheels. The engine is almost finished and George will be picking it up soon. He will be taking it to have the gold leaf and graphics done.

Jack, supberb work! I noticed your amazing rivet work, and also admire the wood deck under the tender’s tank. Iam curious if you used drive rivets in the tank sides, or old fashion rivet rivets? Also, what are the fasteners in the wood decking?

Thanks for displaying your amazing work.

Hello My Friends
Thank you Glenn. The rivets in the tender are 1/16" round head copper. No drive rivets as the tender is brass with a copper bottom and holds water. The fasteners holding down the tender deck are brass round head slotted screws modified to have square heads. I think there is a description of how to make them in this thread. Basically the slots are filled with solder, and then the heads are squared up using the mill and the spindex. You can make either machine or wood screws with this method.

Hello My Friends
Here is the latest addition to the American. Every wood burner should have a wood pile.

Jack,

Just outstanding model work. I love your attention to detail. I wish your new railroad was a little closer to the east coast so I could visit.
