K-36 / 37 Lead Truck Part Drawings
Gentlemen,
I am helping an acquaintance with the lead and trailing trucks for his 1:20th scale Uintah mallet. We are convinced from the elevation and section drawings that the lead truck on the Uintah 2-6-6-2T is practically indistinguishable from the lead trucks on the D&RGW K-36 and K-37, so I am attempting to create a 3D CAD model of the latter in SolidWorks. I am using D&RGW engine truck assembly drawing #10817.
This assembly drawing calls out a couple of part drawings, namely #15444 for the frame & bottom rocker seat; and #15445 for the bolster and top rocker bearing. So far we have had no success locating either at the Denver Public Library Western History Collection or the Colorado Railroad Museum's archives.
Would any of you guys have either of these drawings, or for those of you who have built your own K-36 or K-37, do you have any sketches of these particular parts you could share?
Thanks for your help,
Dave Queener

Re: K-36 / 37 Lead Truck Part Drawings
So far I have traced the lead truck frame from drawing 10817 as best I can. That is no substitute for the frame part drawing, but it will have to do. Here's what I have come up with so far in SolidWorks, inclusive of the pedestal liners:
And here are two pics of the prototype:

Hope you find what you need. Your drawing looks great.

Yep, that sure looks the part, I hope it comes out well for what you guys are after, nice job.

Dave, what do the two holes do in the outer, top edge of the casting? Iam guessing they might be lube openings for the bearings??

Hey Glenn,.. David might've dug that far...he does some nice work,
in the images I sent him of my prints, beneath those holes in the casting are what become locating or centering bosses for the springs above the journal boxes...
All the Best,
Paul

Hi Glenn,
I tired to draw every feature from the prototype general arrangement drawing, and it shows a boss which the two pedestal springs nest around. I am not sure why it was made to have a hole, since I expect lubrication would be needed on the surface of the pedestal liners, not the springs. Maybe someone more knowledgeable than myself could chime it.
Here's a sectioned screencap of my lead truck frame:

Gentlemen,
I have nearly finished my SolidWorks model of the K-36 & K-37 lead truck. Here's where I am as of today:

Re: K-36 / 37 Lead Truck Part Drawings
What I lack is the lid for the 5x9 journal boxes on the truck. I have good mechanical drawings for a McCord pressed steel lid of 1902 vintage, but I do not seem to have any for the peculiar, bulging lids used on the majority of these trucks. Does anyone have a blueprint he could share with me? I'll attach a few pics of the prototype below.
Thanks!
Dave

Re: K-36 / 37 Lead Truck Part Drawings
Didn't someone build a couple 2.5 in scale K36s? Maybe they could be reached with drawings. Somehow I doubt the dimensions are the same between the mallet and k36 lead truck, but perhaps very similar designs.

Dave,
Maybe ask over on the Narrow Gauge Discussion Forum? Show your progress and see if anyone can help.

Re: K-36 / 37 Lead Truck Part Drawings
The lead truck on the Uintah mallet and the D&RGW K-36 appear to be very similar designs, both coming from Baldwin built locos in the 1920s and made by Commonwealth Steel Castings. There are no known part or assembly drawings for the Uintah mallet, so the best one can do is trace the elevation and section drawings and compare with the D&RGW lead truck assembly drawing. And compare photos, as well, of course. Here's a few pics of the Unitah truck:
