An impressive Swiss New Shay

Post by ToddMiller »

I ran across this as I am looking into building a modern Shay. Does anyone know anything about it or who built it? I've used Google translate to translate the titles but they don't give a clue. In one scene there is a quick picture of plans and they are in English and seem like they are from the original plans given the measurements on them.

Hi Todd,
check out this thread in a German forum with more photos and details.
The Shay was build on own design, based on different sources.

Interesting looking lok

Not sure I could balance on a tender with only one truck.

Not that I have seen that many Shays...but don't most Shays of this class have dual trucks onder the tender?

My guess is that he finished one truck and wanted to run it...and will be doing the second later..?
Too many things going on to bother listing them.

All class "C" shay locos had 3 trucks, 3 cylinders. You can actually balance quite nicely on a single truck tender.

Now that I look...yes ...duh

It just seems to be more pronounced on this gentleman's model than on the Cass in the pictures.

Too busy looking at the engine than the tender.

It is a beautiful job... and the correct gauge!

Thinking about it..the OS Shay is a 4 trucker. One of the fellows at PLS used to run one..

Moody, thanks for the link. I have been trying to register so I can look at the photos but I haven't quite got there yet. I keep going back and forth with Google translate when I get an error message trying to figure out what to do. Unfortunately my one quarter of college German is not helping.
