It’s an American Hoist and Derrick model. I have sent a set of Al Armitage drawings and a link to the AH&D 1914 catalog to Charlie, which he is using as reference. Prototype for Harris came from San Francisco Maritime Museum.

There is a hoist like this on display at a maritime museum in San Francisco. Incredibly, these hoists were often installed on sailing ships to raise and trim sails while underway, as well as to load and unload cargo.

Still drawing, nothing to post tonight.
I noticed a lot of inputs on the gear. All interesting. Still working on laying out the cylinders and valve gear.

Making Progress,
Last night's work.
Cylinders are concentric with the Cross Slides finally. and I am starting to tie it together
In the shop I am finishing up on installing the lubricator and running the pipping to the Steam Chest.
Still A long way to go.

Found a nice catalog for American Hoist & Derrick that has a nice section on their donkey and hoisting engine offerings. Also some nice pictures that may be helpful to Charlie or anyone going off print on their own engine. Some cool stuff on the variations of number of drums and winches on the engines. Some even had slewing attachments for use on cranes. Lots of possibilities besides a twin drum.

I'm Back
I know it does not look like I am making much progress and I can only blame this on me having a live, involving children and the holidays.
I spent this evening going back over all the parts and fixing the small glitches in them. Some were in the original drawings and also some generated by me.
I know have the cylinders and frame worked out with all the parts concentric. I am now ready to tackle the valve gear.

Re: The William Harris Steam Donkey Engine in 2.5 inch Scale
Just in from visiting my daughter's family in North Carolina.
Did manage a little time on the Drafting of Gears. This was successful after listening to many YouTube Videos on the subject.
I have been working on a Drum gear with a 16 pitch gear and 144 teeth. This gives a Pitch diameter of 9 inches. The Driving gear will be 2 inches at 32 teeth.
First cut at the drawing
I will spend a few weeks redoing it into what we need

Re: The William Harris Steam Donkey Engine in 2.5 inch Scale
I don't think anyone answered your question Charlie .
Bill Passed away about 18-20 years ago . I spoke with him a few days before he passed.
He lived down the road from my sister in California and a friend of mine was building his Falk engine in my shop , so i called Bill
and had a phone call I will never forget. When asking about the valve timing on the Falk ( Eccentrics not on main axle)
Bill said he was sorry but couldn't help .. I was sort of surprised ...but Bill then said " I died on the table in the hospital
and they brought me back " ..and now I can't remember any of my work " I felt heart broken for Bill, a true steam engine guy who did stuff for others
and he was denied the memory of all his work. So we chatted about other things and I thanked him for his efforts . My sister called a few days later
and told me he had passed . I felt fortunate to have spoken with him and thanking him for his contributions to our hobby
RIP Bill..good man
