My boiler leak
My boiler leak
I got a note from someone suggesting that I try a product called "Boiler Solder".

Sounds too good to be true...but please tell me what you think.
Thank you

Re: My boiler leak
Looks like a product intended to get into a seam and plug it. What you have described is a hole in the tube. Doubtful it will do any good.

Re: My boiler leak
I have seen (smelled) people who put crystalized ginger into a working copper boiler to plug pinholes...generally from weepy soldering.
It works...but you have to continually feed the ginger or the leaks come back...and never use it to fix a leaky tube caused by corrosion.
Generally if you have a steel boiler that has sprung a leak...it is time to pull it off and fix it

Too many things going on to bother listing them.
Re: My boiler leak
Research indicates that this product contains “oatmeal”! Intended for low-pressure heating boilers. I doubt that this is going to be your “secret sauce”.

Re: My boiler leak
The historical way of sealing a new or repaired riveted and peened seam boiler was to throw a few shovel-fulls of horse manure into it and steam it up. The fiber in the manure would find its was into the seams and act as a caulk. Of course the natural fiber would eventually break down but by that time it was replaced by rust and suspended solids in the feedwater.
Sounds like a new name for an old trick.

Horses are a lot more expensive (in the long run).
You only have to feed a steamer when you run it.
