I have a project that requires some control rods wit 4-36 threads cut onto them. A bunch of years ago, i remember a vendor selling a variety pack of about a dozen 12 inch long sticks of numbered bar brass rod. Can anyone point me to a source of #4 sized rod?

Steam Fitter sold machine screw size rod, maybe 30 years ago. I got one of each size during their "we aren't going out of business sale." They were sourced from J.I. Morris. Sizes were 00, 0, 1, and 2.

Well, the major diameter of #4 is .112. McMaster has brass rod in .114. Probably close enough.

I got a pack from Micro Mark of various sizes for making threaded rod in the smaller sizes.

Also, if you go to Ebay and search for brass rod .114 you'll get a bunch of it.

Hi Mark,
Is there any particular reason for using #4-36 thread? #4-40 is the standard thread pitch for National Coarse and it would be easier to get taps & dies for a standard size. National Fine is #4-48.
You can also use 1/8" rod and just turn the part to be threaded down a little bit.

Online knife making suppliers sell 7/64 - .109 diameter brass rod. It's .003 under, plenty close enough! usaknifemaker.com is one source.
