I've been working on my friend's 4-way toolpost for an Atlas / Craftsman 618.

This is about 2" square.

I have to finish the slots to depth, drill and tap the holes for the clamping screws then make a locking handle for it.

Good stuff! Nothing like having time in the shop to get things done...

I made a pair of "locomotive jacks" from scrap around my shop. Sometimes I need to lift my loco just a fraction of an inch for testing on compressed air or steam. These work great and are very stable.

I'm currently working on a 1 3/4" scale on 3 1/2" gauge model of an SR&RL pulpwood rack flat. I've designed nearly every part of the car from scratch. Mostly 3D printed, with some laser cut steel and CNC turnings.

Big fun!

Chris

A little locomotive with 4 wheels on the track is a lot more fun
than a 1/2 finished one with 16 wheels on the bench!

My second project is taking the venerable LBSC "Juliet" design and modifying it into a class B4 locomotive. I'm also creating all of the patterns from scratch for this one. This is a 3D printed test of the driver pattern.

This will have 3.5" and 4.75". I might add a 4th rail to capture 2.5" gauge but I'm not sure if I want to deal with it. I have a 4-4-2 in 2.5" but I'm not sure if I'll go thru the ordeal of getting it ready to run.

Robert, what type of angle are you using for rail?

Hey Chris,

It's just 1/2"x1/2"x1/8" hot roll angle. Pretty cheap and super easy to bend by hand to the radius curves I have. @25ft rad to make it thru that little double bend.

Cheers,

RM

Chris,
Those both sound like really neat projects.

I finally got my Hoglet finished but the kick start arm broke while I was trying to start it. But not before it ran for 5 seconds. I will make a new shaft for cordless drill start next. I’ll try to post a pic.

Wow! That's way cool. Would you mind providing a few details? Bore size, stroke, things like that.
Looks very nice. That had to be a rather challenging project.
