Just a Note -- Don Ashton

Post by david griner »

Hello,

Some or all of you may already know, but Don Ashton died on April 12th.

He was a fellow from England, who was an expert in the design and construction of Walschaert valve gear.

Having corresponded with him, he was a fine gentleman and most concerned for trying to help others on this and Stephenson gear.

Believe he will be sincerely missed.

A fine gentleman indeed. His passing was also announced on the two, mostly UK forums as well. He will be missed.

Thanks for your note, Dave.
Very sorry to learn we lost Don, whose valve gear design booklets were concise and informative without being stuffy.

Bummer. I have his "Design procedures for Walchearts' and Stephenson's Valve Gears" volume here. RIP.
