Bagley burner install
Re: Bagley burner install
I see nothing unique about your firebox. Is it not rectangular in shape more or less? What makes it different? The round firebox door opening? There is a length, width, and height to your firebox and the Bagley drawing should be able to work within those dimensions. Unless your firebox is really short and the door bottom is overrun by fire it should work as designed. The drawing also shows correct plumbing and pipe size. Feel free to install the burner as you choose but I would assume the proper installation is as the builder of the burner would install it per the instructions. Possibly you need to make a new firebox pan?

I'm sorry....what drawing ?
Re: Bagley burner install
I found the drawing.
Re: Bagley burner install
I never took a close look at the drawing I need to make a plate with a 5/8" hole in it to cover the oval hole.

Re: Bagley burner install
Hi Howard,
It just looks like (maybe just me) that his pan is very deep, and angled, like the sides and bottom of an ash pan.
I thought I’d read that the draft opening should be on the firedoor end, whether in the bottom of the pan or in the vertical end of the pan, to help roll the fire vertical and back towards the flue sheet.
I may be completely off my nut.
Sorry if I’m confused.

Well I'm going for it today just like Dick indicated....I just don't know if the spark plug tower is in the way. There is no way to remove it or redo anything about the firebox and there is no Refactory anywhere.
Thanks to all of you for your help.

Metal can be modified.
If the spark plug is in the way, cut it out and patch the bottom.
Yes it might present some difficulties and complications, but it can be done.

Not sure how well the spark plug will hold up directly in the path of the flame. Some have success with a tungsten or ceramic rod in the path of the flame. The rod glows red hot and if the fire sucks out the glowing rod immediately re-ignites the hot atomized mixture.

Re: Bagley burner install
The spark plug should be just fine. Looks like it is shielded with just the tip sticking out. It should also be okay where it is located.
Allow some clearance around the burner when you make the plate.
You can make a damper type door for the lower rectangular opening.

I purchased a BBQ lighter but it just didn't make a good spark. I made my own Tesla coil kind of spark generator and cut the ground off the end of the spark plug. I'm generating somewhere around 50 to 80 million volts, you should see the spark dance around the base from the tip of the plug.
Yes, I'll make a damper slide for the bottom hole.
