I don't have a burn pan and if I aim low the non-removable spark plug holder is in the way. Should I aim at the door?

the Bagley Burner should be aimed about 1" below the fire door.

The instructions that Dick Bagley wrote ( and are available on the IBLS website) will be of great aid in setting up your burner. Is there a particular reason you don't want to look at the original instructions. Seems the most logical way to go about installing your burner. Just a thought.

Did I read right? You don’t have a fire pan?

First of all I have read Dick Bagley's everything. He fails to mention where to mount and where to aim with a firebox like mine. I can't seem to attach a picture.

Mount the burner in the oval opening . Don't know why you say you don't have a fire pan. That is what you are looking at below the firebox. Don't change anything until you get it firing and see what happens.

Trying to understand so we can help. In one photo it looks like there is a rectangular opening at the bottom in front of your spark plug.

Are you converting from coal to oil, and do you have an ash pan installed? Is the ash pan what I’m seeing with the spark plug, rectangular hole, and oval hole at the front?
Tks,
Brian

Never was a coal burner. Don't know why the rectangular opening at the bottom in front of the spark plug was for. I'm going to use the oval hole to mount the burner. By the way I got this as a basket case...with nothing plumbed and the burner and all of its parts were gone, the bagley was in a box.

The drawing shows everything except the fire pan side view . It shows the burner is mounted 1/8" outside of the fire pan front wall spraying thru a 5/8" diameter hole. The spray should point to the door bottom or below. It clearly shows the rectangular air hole on the bottom of the fire pan. The fire pan should be made of heavy gauge steel and stainless would be prefered. You should use hi temp refractory material to line the bottom and sides of the firebox pan. Again, the Bagley drawings and written information will produce the proper results unless you have a very small firebox.
