Steaming Bay Air Hose Connectors

Post by dnevil »

Not long ago I purchased air hose quick connects from Harbor Freight, assuming they were well standardized. When I tried to use them I found they did not interoperate with other hoses and connectors I had. You may already know this, but there are many different types of air quick connect designs, and they are not interoperable! Apparently, Harbor Freight carries more than one type. A quick search on Amazon also shows many types of quick connects.

Here is a good article with photos that describes the different types.

I would like to hear from you live steamers that use air for firing your locos. What type connector do you use? What type is installed at the steaming bays at your track or club?

Thanks!

At Ridge Live Steamers we have started to use a universal female air fitting. It will accept 5 or 6 of the more common types of male hose fittings.

I carry a drawer full of them in my tool box. fortunately the clubs where I frequent (the most) all use the same...which just happens to be the same as what I use at home.
Too many things going on to bother listing them.

Gotcha ! Been there done that. I've got a box full of extra fittings, just in case.

There are dozens of styles of quick air hose connectors. Here's a few of the most common: http://www.valleyhydraulic.com/store/pc ... eyword=150

Milton M-style/industrial. Pretty sure that's what was being used at LALS and Riverside, at least the last time I was there running.
