Antique locomotive collection for sale

Post by Glenn Brooks »

Selling my collection of three historic park gauge locomotives.

Consider trade for a 7.5” ga 10 wheeler, or 2.5” scale F unit, or both.

I’ll post more complete info on each loco in the FS page. In the meantime, here is an overview of the engines. Happy to provide detailed background information offline. Just pm and we can talk on the phone or email.

1950 12” gauge coal fired Ottaway 4-4-0 locomotive, with tender, two original riding cars, and approximately 1500# coal supply. Engine # 65. Fully restored, including new front end with multi port blast pipe, (original) code boiler, and rebuilt tender. $35,000

1970ish Ottaway B-14 “Rocketliner” F-7 diesel outline locomotive body, and factory rebuilt Wisconsin 4 cylinder engine. Includes transmission, Ottaway badges and chrome trim, new laser cut truck frames and original axles and wheels. This is a partially restored set of parts. It needs assembly and new livery. Originally the Ottaway B-14’s were produced to compete with the MTC G16 train sets. Ottaway manufactured 12 train sets before selling out to Chance Amusement Company. Chance discontinued the Ottaway line and started producing the now famous C.P. Huntington 24” gauge 4-2-4 amusement park train. My Ottaway is engine #12, the last F7 (14”gauge) unit Herb Ottaway and sons manufactured.

I had Ryan Knowlton laser cut a new set of side frames for the loco. The trucks can built up as 12”, 14, 15” or 16” gauge - your choice. This is approximately a 2.5” to 3” scale locomotive, so could, maybe, be reconfigured as a 7.5” gauge narrow gauge locomotive. You would need to experiment with weight and balance to see if it would maintain stability on 7.x” ga track.

Asking $10,000 for the body, motor and parts.

Finally,

Albert Campbell’s personal 1904 4-4-0 locomotive. Mr. Campbell is credited as a founding father of the modern live steam hobby. He is one of the two original miniature train vendors to manufacture and sell 3/4”, 1” and park gauge miniature train casting kits and completed stem locomotive engines to hobbyists in North America, from 1886 to 1920. He designed and built this loco after inspecting one of the Cagney Brother’s commercial 12 5/8” ga amusement park trains operating in New York, in 1903.

The engine has the original 14” riveted, keyhole style, coal fired, 90 PSI boiler. Locomotive never operated on the ground. Machined surfaces have no wear, as the locomotive has never been operated on the ground. Always stored in Mr. Campbell’s shop. The loco needs to be dissembled and all bearing surfaces cleaned and oiled. The boiler is in new condition, having only been fired a dozen times or less. Flues are corroded and should be replaced in order to restore the existing boiler to service. Or a better option is add a new boiler.

I also will include Mr.Campbell’s collection of original 1900 3/4” and 1” scale patterns used to cast cylinders and other locomotive parts.

This loco is gauged to 12 5/8”. It could be regauged to 15” ga, or downsized slightly to 12” gauge with a new boiler.

A new owner would wish to consider full restoration to place in operation, or maintain its existing provenance as a complete, original, historic exhibit.

Asking $15,000

Thanks Russ! We plan on downsizing, but no decision yet where to land. My superintendent of motive power says five locomotives are to many for the roster… so… All Offers considered!
