Finished machining the Staybolt, Cleanout and Fire Door openings.

Took a little time to make the half couple fittings for the cleanouts and dry fitted the fire box sheets. Being sheered they will definitely need some work to square them up.

Working on the firebox plates. Learned a valuable lesson. The first sheets I worked with had been water jet cut and were perfect. The other sheets are sheared. Not square, some too short (Minimal) and two 3/8 too big.

From now on I will order them sheared 1/8 to 1/4 over sized to give me room to square them up.

I know it is for a boiler and not a precision part but there is that part of me that likes to start from square. Hoping today to cut the fire door. This will leave me the two tube sheets.

Pontiacguy took the time to show me how he does it when I visited him last week. Don't tell the government.

For future boiler production, one of my local Live Steam Friends just received an entire sheet set laser cut to precision specification.
He provided the CAD information, and the Company did the rest, using the steel alloy he specified, and including Mill Spec sheets for required boiler certification.
All cuts were specified to allow cleanup, but with no major material removal.
And the cost was remarkably reasonable for the entire set.

As Forest said:

"And just like that it was time for Charlie to do the tube sheets".

I have run out of parts to machine out prior to tackling the Tube Sheets. So far all are lining up.

For cutting the chamfer on the door hole (both the back head and firebox plate) I used a 1", 60 degree carbide countersink.

The iron grate on top of the firebox is out of my American. Looks my coal usage is about to go way up.

Ran into a roadblock.

I started setting up for the tube sheets today but will hold off until I come across a better price on a .880 oversize reamer.

The best price I have found so far is McMaster Carr at $102.00. If I do not find one prior to the first of the month, I will order that one.

After spending the afternoon on the internet, it would appear McMaster Carr is the only option.

Before you order you might give Victor Machinery a call. They have all sorts of oddball stuff. While I don't see it on their website they might have it. It's worth the call. Similar-sized reamers are in the $50 price range. 1-800-723-5359.

Hey Charlie: Why not try an adjustable hand reamer? These are pretty good, and a lot less costly: https://drillsandcutters.com/adjustable ... vD_BwE&p=2

NOTE on Victor Tools

Gave them a call this morning. They have been bought out by Wholesale Tools.

Very friendly sales person explained that WT was now made up of twelve companies they had purchased. Rather than keep me on the phone they are to call be back as soon as they locate what I am looking for.
