Things are progressing along. It's actually starting to look like a locomotive.

Boiler is 12 3/4" OD with 3/8" thick walls. It is 42" from the front flue sheet to the rear flue sheet which would make the gross volume approx. 4,750 cubic inches. FYI, the smoke box is 22" in length and the firebox (measured at the top) is 21" in length.

Hello SF 2900,
That's a very big boiler, indeed! And we thought our boilers for the Y, my A and the J under construction were big ones  but that of your fat 2900 is about 50 % bigger!
Like that engine, the prototype of which will be returned to service next? year, too. I got a lifelong membership of the club 2926 this year. Saw the engine and her sister 5011 at Sacramento more than 20 years ago.
Go ahead and please continue reporting about your fine work!

Fab. Draw, cut, weld. Rinse and repeat.

Ward,

Will the smokebox be jacketed and or lagged? On the C&O J3a's, the smokebox had jacketing but I can't tell on the erection drawings if they had lagging as well, though I doubt they did.

Thanks,

Rob
