Re: my project
Hi Pam
Really the most to say the least! The truck side frames look great. Commonwealth trucks have a lot going on, you might say a delightful, not so little puzzle. Keep up the good work.

Re: my project
Next couple weeks are going to be very busy. Today I got the scan of the frame casting to feed into the water jet to cut the frame backing plates. Tomorrow ordering the journal box material. Have the axle blanks already and cutting steel wheel blanks as soon as the big saw is available (I acquired the left over 5" round from a job we will never do again). The trucks will take shape quickly. I'm on a mission now.

Re: my project
moving along....the casting back plates got cut very early this morning on the water jet. took 45 minutes to cut the four plates.
used my dremel the carefully cut the tabs out.
the spacer blocks are rough cut.
also the 2.5" x 2.5" steel for the journal boxes came today...hopefully will get that rough cut tomorrow.
onward,
Pamela

Re: my project
Hello Ms. Hudson: Can you suggest someone in the OC or SD area for a decent price on water-jet? The quotes I got in 3/4" steel plate from a place in Vegas were about $10.00 per inch, I think? $360.00 for 18 brake shoes!

Re: my project
We charge 90 dollars and hour. 3/4" steel is slow going. Why not just get cast shoes from LE or Tom Bee or RR wharehouse. Any way you look at it cutting them from plate is going to cost a fortune.
The journal box material is cut. Going out in a bit to start turning the box caps. Also laying out the hole pattern on the frame back plates.

Re: my project
continued progress.....
at this rate the side frames will be built up by weeks end and journal boxes should be well under way. the only thing that needs to be cut yet are the wheel blanks.
