Burner pilot can be as simple as a butane lighter wand.

Once you have the burner and boiler draft setup correctly there is literally no reason to have to relight during the day.
If you feel the need, you can use one of these pizeo igniters for BBQ grills.

Alternately, you can just get the blower going, crack the gas valve and toss a match down the stack..

For reference, I put a 1" diameter borosilicate glass window in my fire door so that I can see what is going on. I used it a lot for the first few years...but hardly look through it now.

Hi Guys:
For those who don't know Wendy uses a Marine type boiler, the firebox is made from 6" sch 40 pipe 13" long, with 37 3/8" steel flues. I don't have every thing yet but these pictures might be of interest.

You are going to have to figure out a way to get fresh air to the bottom of the burners..otherwise they will try to just suck in combustion products.

Some sort of a sheet metal separator through which the top end of the burners protrude...the bottom end...which pulls in the air for combustion needs a direct supply of outside air separated from combustion products which heat the boiler.

Looking at the burners.. basically the 'nut area' needs fresh air which needs to be separated from the burning end..otherwise your burners away from the fire door are going to snuff out.

This is what is shown on the burner assy found on line picture.

This complexity is the reason why most marine Boilers have one big burner at the head end which is directly fed by outside air.

I Plan on putting a shield or baffle on the burner to separate the firebox into two chambers as you say, just haven't got that far yet. I did get the frame ends bolted on today, i drilled and tapped the 24 holes in the angle and then put nuts on after that kind of like double nutting, i'm going to use lock nuts on final assembly should be nice and tight.

I have over a hundred photos that I took of Sabins Wendy 'Uncle Sam' and another hundred that Harlock sent of the turnaround on his Wendy. If you like I can send them to you.... far too many to post here.

Hi Scotty:
Yes I would like to see thoughts pictures. Be my guest to post some on here others my like to see them as well. These little loco's seem to be pretty popular over all. My next round of parts won't be cut out for another week or so but the frame is going to a friend to have the center spreader welded this week, the rear spreader i had cut to small, i forgot it was 7 1/4" gauge and i'm making it 7 1/2" so i widened it. (First Oops)

Thanks
Matt

Skyloop....

Word of caution. Slotted cap burners need a minimum amount of height ABOVE the burner caps for combustion. This height might range from 3" to 5" depending on the Btu output of the burners you're using. From your photos, would say you don't have the needed flame/combustion clearance. Perhaps the V-blocks holding your burner manifold were a 1st pass dimensional check or other, but the entire manifold should probably be lowered while still allowing for primary and secondary air to enter your burner chamber below the manifold.

Suggest you wander over to the teecoproducts.com website and check out the literature section in their catalog on burners and nozzles. Would hate to see you build your boiler and produce inadequate heating because of dimensional issues that could have been resolved from the start.

That was just set up for the photo it was all i had to hold the burner. They will be mounted so the top of the side burners are just about centerline of the pipe. However i will check out this web site you recommend.

Vertical position is not nearly as important as air intake control
