Hi I am about to order the drawings for the Super Simplex, do I need the original drawings as well?

Hi Jock,

The Super Simplex can be built without the original drawings. Although the original drawings are handy for comparison. Neither set of drawings is exactly complete. I can help you with any thing that has been left out, including the exact location for the valve motion brackets.

Are you located in the U.S., or, U.K? Your byline does not say where you are.

If you are in the U.S., this locomotive is easily regauged for 4-3/4" track, as this is exctly what I have done to make it so you can run it on the majority of tracks in the U.S. If you need a list of things to modify, including some modifications to the boiler, I can supply that.

Here's my website that I have dedicated to the Super Simplex: https://supersimplex.yolasite.com/

The Super Simplex is a great little coal burning locomotive and I would guess that hundreds have been built in England.

Thanks for that, I'm in Thailand. Will order the drawings. I have all the Model Engineer issues for both locos and will order the drawings now.

If you have all the ME articles for both locos, that will go a long way towards helping you out. The text is particularly helpful.

I moved to Thailand 4 years ago. I left behind my 5" 9F chassis and a part built Sweet Pea. During lockdown I watched a lot of YouTube channels and got enthused again and started to fit out a workshop, needs air-conditioning here.

Your post says, "CAD Modification`. But, you did not say what you are modifying.

That's pretty cool! It is not in your screen shot of your monitor. Plus, I think the monitor shows the front end of the frames, not the trailing end where the pony truck would be positioned. You also left out the hole for either the steam supply or exhaust. I see only one hole in the frame.

It's also possible to make chips instead of re-drawing every thing. I built my Super Simplex pretty much just as drawn. It steams great and runs well. My chassis was running on air in 9 months and ran on It's own steam in 23 months.

It's one way I can check the layout, I haven't used imperial measurements since 1975, so have to relearn everything. Just finished reading all your blog posts, thanks for putting that together.
