The lids will be hinged but there is no celler because of roller bearings. Jim

Got a few hours today. This is the first tender axle. I need to visit the steel supply to get some 1/4 x 3/4 for the frames.

Its been a month since any time was spent on the loco. I ordered crank pin material in early November. Maybe by the end of January I was told.
First to finish the tender axles. Then press the wheels and bearings.

Hi Harold yes it is a Feb 1942 round dial still holds under half a thousandth.
A great piece of thought out engineering and convenience for the operator.

In my apprenticeship I spent considerable time on what was then a new EE (1957, but the lathe was a '56). The difference between an EE and pretty much any other lathe I've ever operated (a huge variety, as I worked in commercial shops) is unbelievable. They have a feel that rivals that of precision grinding equipment. I'm not the least bit surprised that you can work to a half thou. Hard to do without a good feel.
