Hello My Friends
The throat sheet and back head wrapper were made of 1/16" copper. Thinner material is actually more difficult to form compound curves as it wrinkles more easily. They also have to be drilled and tapped where the side sheets fasten on.

Hello My Friends
The green material is masking tape. It is used as a temporary spacer to allow for the thickness of the paint. As you know a difference in diameter will change the circumference significantly. So if you don't use this tape dodge and paint the jacket on the inside the mounting holes in the jacket will not line up with the corresponding mounting holes in the boiler. So a couple wraps of masking tape are made on the boiler, everything is fitted up and then before painting the tape is removed. I learned this one the hard way when I re built my first engine ( a Little Engines Atlantic )many years ago. The orange parts are steel mounting points that Jim welded to the boiler.

Hello My Friends
Why thank you Russ, I certainly hope it's not illegal . This engine will be the most accurate model of a Nickel Plate Berkshire that I have made. Jim Kreider is the full bottle when it comes to Berks. and as this is his locomotive we are working closely to make sure all that is there is correct. Jim is coming for a visit next weekend and we plan on taking a bit of time to point and talk and decide how certain details we be arranged. Too much fun
See you in the funny pages...

Hello My Friends
Here are a couple more snappies of Jim's Berk. The air piping for the sanders is 3/32". These are tees and elbows that I had laying around. The unions are dummies and were just made up from 3/16" hex brass. The sand delivery lines will be 5/32". Having fun here jumping around the engine making little trinkets. Like a kid in a candy store...what shall I make next.
