This is a project idea I thought of for
my shop when I get it done.

Can I ask why 4 pieces of 2 1/2" x 1/8" tubing for your legs as opposed to a single piece of 4x4x1/2" or 6x6x3/8" or something else substantial.
Re: 90 Ton Shop press Idea
A boat winch & cables to raise & lower the table...I have one for my press, "when I finish my shop"...
I despise a bottle-jack press, but maybe 3 of them will keep the ram in line better than one...
What do you intend to hurt bad enough that you need 90 tons?
Mine is rated 50, & I can destroy a lot of stuff with it!

It makes it much stronger due to what is called Skin Effect
There is more inside and outside square inch area overall to resist
any opposing Push, Pull, Twist, type force's put on the frame.

More even pressure across the push plate.
I want to beable to make some small Die's for pressing someronm wrote:What do you intend to hurt bad enough that you need 90 tons?

parts for future project's, and it should make that much easier.

Re: 90 Ton Shop press Idea
are you planning on tieing the pumps together on the oil side??? other wise i see the ram shifting all over which at 90 tons can really launch stuff.
Re: 90 Ton Shop press Idea
Yea, I was wondering why not just one big hydraulic cylinder? I don't suspect that having the pump handles tied together is going to equalize the pressures...nor even if the oil pumps are tied that equal forces will result from the same fluid pressure.
Standards are so important that everyone must have their own...

The oil circuit and the future air circuit.
I didn't show the manifolds in the drawing.
I will have to drill into the base's and hook
up to manifolds.

Re: 90 Ton Shop press Idea
I did something like you're talkin' with a 35 ton OTC press once. Had a piece of 1/2" plate we were trying to bend, and 35 ton wasn't quite enough to get it there. Took two of us, but we grabbed a couple 20 ton bottle jacks and set 'em up with plates clamped on each side of the main ram in the center. Pump the left, pump the right, hit the air/hydraulic a shot, till we got the plate to the angle we needed....and symmetrical.
Don't know why your idea wouldn't work....just a matter of getting the rams operating equally.....or maybe timed, I should call it.

We use to balance our cylinders and pumps on our air,
and hydraulic systems with balance manifolds, and
large snubbers/needle valves and fine tune the
timing of the circuit's involved.
Once you set them up as above they run flawlessly.

Re: 90 Ton Shop press Idea
good to hear thoughts were on a similar path. if all the jacks come from the same place it should be fine
as a note over the years i have found humongus cylinders on the backends of plastic extrusion presses that are no longer being used. 12 inch cylinder, 18 inch stroke 4 inch piston all you need to do is add a pump.
