This will have to do untill the Aciera comes along.
Also managed to find room for this BCA jig mill.

If we are doing shapers, I have an 11" Gould and Eberhardt that is old enough to have poured in place babbit bearings!

I have always wanted a South Bend shaper to add to my lathe....they are a great tool for a home shop...

Here is the 11" Gould and Eberhardt shaper after several evolutions. When I got it, for almost free, the drive consisted of a huge antique squirrel cage motor driving through a car transmission and a mess of V belts. One of the bonus parts was a surplus variable speed hydraulic drive which is now mounted on top with a smaller motor. It has a variable stroke and power feed to the X axis. The drip pan was a recent add; part of getting and keeping the shop habitable.

When I got it, the teeth on the bull gear were very badly worn. I was able to find a stock gear of the correct pitch and tooth count, so I machined the tooth remains off of the bull, cut the center out of the new gear, and put the two together with some pins for alignment and a bit of brazing.

It gets used mainly for rough work and for starting the dovetails for quick change tool holders.

The Rockwell Delta tool grinder is in the background of one of the photos.

Some fantastic equipment you guys own! I love looking at the pictures...most of them dwarf my tiny Burke #4, but my shop is very small and I intend to make antique clock gears on the mill.

I have been searching for a working VN #12, which is a bit beefier than what I have. The #12 is rarer than hen's teeth these days. I would love to see some pix of a #12 if anyone is lucky enough to own one.

Also, let's see some of those Bridgeport "M" and "J" heads, or perhaps a Diamond, which is a great home shop mill, but rare, as they came from Los Angeles...

Keep em coming!

Thanks!

Just because you don’t believe it - doesn’t mean it’s not so.

jack thedieter--

Have you ever used the horizontal mill capability of your 3617? (It sure is pretty! Are you going to take it off the pallet and plug it in? :) )
