Tri-onics Pro Max DRO

Post by tennsmith »

I have one of the subject DROs, it's probably close to 30 years old, if not older. A recent shop accident has resulted in the breakage of one of the green nixie tube readoauts. Does anyone know a source for these displays or does someone perhaps have an old non-working Tri-onics display that could be cannibalized for the readout?

Try a place like Mouser electronics or Newark electric or Allied electronics. There are many electronics companies that sell nixie tubes and also check out surplus dealers.

A quick Google search pulls up all kinds of nixie tubes. Check the number of pins and size and then go by that. Usually the operating voltages are the same. Also, search for Mr Carlson's Lab on youtube and look for the video on nixie tubes for installing and more information than you probably need. Warning, his videos are loooong.

Those are probably vacuum fluorescent displays, not nixies. Nixies aren't green, and were obsolete 30 years ago.

Digikey has one type of nixie:

Newark has vacuum flourescents:

Thanks for the input John, I guess my next step is to open the case and see if I can identify exactly what type VFD I have. One of them is still intact and functional and maybe it has some form of identification printed upon it.

If it's the same panel as a trionics pro man CNC, I have a complete panel I would be willing to part ways with.
