What Bill said.
Call Grizzly's support team for a friendly and useful discussion.
Grizzly does carry replacement motors that are likely not listed on their website.
And their original warehouse and business center are located in Bellingham, WA, just off I-5, so at least on your same West Coast USA.

Thanks Curtis, that is a good idea, I didn't think of that. I have a 12 volt diaphragm pump I bet I could use.

Thankyou

Wow thanks everyone for all of your help. As far as getting help from my shop teacher, our regular teacher is probably not coming back, they found out he has cancer. So we had a sub for now. I don't think he is much of a shop teacher but a fill in.

After reading everyone's replies, I will work on the getting a motor that will work first. Then work on the other stuff.

So I will finish cleaning it up and one of my uncle's friends is going to stop by tomorrow and coach me he said. I just want thank everyone for all of your help. I got a lot of good information from everyone. I didn't mean to throw all of these questions at everyone. It's just my aunt and my sister and I and I got excited about getting the lathe.

So, I'll see what I can get done with all the info you all have gave me. I'll let you all know how it goes after I get it running. So I keep you posted.

Again thank you

Do you perhaps have the old motor around?
Too many things going on to bother listing them.

Hi Bill, no . No motor at all. But I remember reading some older posts somewhere, someone had a picture of a new motor they put on the lathe. I remember the wire connection box was at the rear of the motor and it was blue. So I'm going to look to night. And, I'm going to take your advice about grizzly.

Yes, I read were basically it is what they call a badge name. If I remember right a gentleman who I think was dinosaur, he replied to me here. I think he had a write up somewhere and changed to a vfd. I could be wrong. If nothing else I will do that and copy that one. I just have to go and find it.

Bill, I'm going to figure out how to keep the original pulleys. I learned a little bit about torque I read some of your posts about what you said about torque.

Back to the light rust issue: I recommend Gibbs Brand lubricant etc. It works well for removing light rust when applied with 000 or finer steel wool. A barn-stored rifle that looked impossibly rusty was brought back to the less than shudder appearance by the application of this stuff. Developed by a motorcycle guy.

It needs a substantial CFM air flow that may exceed a diaphragm pump.

Just let go of it, it will eventually unplug itself.

Turkey baster: the “tool” with 101 uses, including extracting oil from thingss with no drain plug, like Dana 44 and Dana 60 rear axles. :D
