I built one tool with an Invar component. I required the buyer (Litton Guidance and Control) to furnish the Invar. If memory serves, the minimum purchase required for the needed small piece was about $1,000!

Graphair and Graphmo are tool steels. Graphmo is one of the nicest of all tool steels to machine and is oil hardening. Graphair machines fairly well and is air hardening. Very stable when one must make a component without risk of excessive movement in heat treat.

Have drawers full of invar and inconel and hastelloy and titanium alloy bits and pieces left over from working gas turbine maintenance for 10 years.
Too many things going on to bother listing them.

If memory serves, Invar is relatively stable, with little dimensional change with temperature.

Correct, my Jig Borers are Invar for that reason.

RMJ Machine Worx in Odessa, TX machines Meehanite piston rings for small engines primarily for RC aircraft. It’s still a perfect material for some things.
