So, on my new-to-me 1947 South Bend lathe, the chuck is a Craftsman that has a ring with holes in it to work the scroll.
It was stuck on.
Didn't want to damage the backgears, so was looking for alternatives.
Also could have used a strap wrench on the cone pulley or bull gear, but that would put all the strain on the key that engages the bull gear to the spindle.
Chucked up a hex bar and used an impact gun while holding onto the spindle. No movement.
When I have rusty fasteners, my go-to is a 50/50 mix of automatic transmission fluid and acetone.
The threads in the chuck were visible thu the face of the chuck, so I dripped some of my concoction onto the threads then spun the spindle in the direction that would bring the fluid INTO the spindle threads,
Did that a few times over a couple of days.
Chucked up the hex bar and went at it with the impact, and it came lose in about 10 seconds.
