Or you can use it for jobs where drill center is no a major issue
However...if you grab an edge finder it may wobble no matter what..

Too many things going on to bother listing them.
Re: Drill chuck; new China or used German?
I would go with a used Rohm or Albrecht. If they have excessive wear, they can be rebuilt with new part: Chinese if runout is not a problem.

Unfortunately the killer cheap prices for rebuild parts for Albrecht chucks appears to be a thing of the past. I can remember when a set of jaws was only about $30.
Anyone here have a source for Albrecht parts that doesn't break the bank?

Still cheaper than new and better result than Asian ..YGWYPF

I don't think Asians don't make quality, they just don't ship much of it here. Can't wait for the report.

I like Japanese tooling and cutters and whatnot.
The few ROK cutters that I have seen to be good.
If I just need something cheap and cannot find used from elsewhere ..and accuracy not a drop dead requirement...like hex collets...I go for cheapest.

Re: Drill chuck; new China or used German?
The results are in;
New China no-name 16mm chuck runout is 0.12mm +- 0.02 (measured arbor runout before mounting)
Used German 13mm Rohm chuck, runout 0.06mm (arbor not checked before mounting).
So if runout is the criteria, the Rohm wins; however, the new China chuck holds better. Holding a 10mm tap I was able to cut through 12 parts each 25mm long without slipping, and release was easy too.
So, I'm happy with my chuck collection, especially for the price I paid.

Re: Drill chuck; new China or used German?
China must have the ability to produce precision parts, for spaceships and missiles, but we don't know if such items as drill press chucks used to produce them are Chinese made or are they using Albrecht, Rohm or other quality made chucks. It would be nice if someone could sneak a peek inside a Chinese factory to see what tools they use; whether imported or homemade.

There are many factories in China...
When items are made with no manufacturer name on them, there is little incentive to keep the quality up.
But with this price difference, even low budget home users like me can afford it, so here we are.

Re: Drill chuck; new China or used German?
ouch...
I have an albrecht that when it is .002 TIR I disassemble and clean it.
chuck is probably 30 years old....
I shudder to think about .020" runout on a small tap where the tap is rotating

Re: Drill chuck; new China or used German?
I don't think that was reported. "New China no-name 16mm chuck runout is 0.12mm +- 0.02" which I interpreted to mean that the chuck runs out about .12mm (.0047", with an error of ±.02mm (.00078")). I would appreciate being corrected if I am wrong.
Not great numbers, but far better than .02".
My concern would be if the chuck is properly heat treated. I know from personal experience that some chucks that are made in China are not. A soft chuck borders on being totally useless.
