Adapting armstrong straight shank to CXA tool holder

Post by skipd1 »

I finished modifying an Armstrong straight shank tool holder to a CXA quick change tool holder. I've been wanting to do this since I saw a video of abom79 using one in a recent video. I will allow easy and quick changes with any 1/2 inch tool: carbide, brazed carbide or high speed steel.
There was quite a bit of material to remove to get it ready to fit the CXA holder. I had to enlarge the slot in the CXA holder to about 1-1/8 inches and make the corresponding shank to size. The holder works great and allows me to change quickly any 1/2 inch shank tool in the holder on the fly. The Armstrong style straight holder was relatively cheap ($30) and the holder I already had.
