Way oil!....outrageously priced!
Re: Way oil!....outrageously priced!
Just checked McMaster-Carr and the 1 gal is $42 and the 5 gal is $176. However, both are "Temporarily Unavailable".

Yes thanks for the link Pete. I've never used that Hangsterfers product but have seen the brand mentioned quite a bit on the PM forums. By all accounts that company is supposed to be pretty good and really knows what there doing. Who knows, it might even be better than the usual Vactra. Definitely a much more sane price for sure.

QCT has a full range of stuff for machining. Cutters, holders, bits measuring tools, etc. All the goodies KBC and the like have and for me they have it within a day or two for pickup.

Almost 40 years ago, because it was factory specified as a general lubrication for my British geared head lathe, I began using ISO-68 hydraulic oil on the ways and slides and that has turned out to be a great way oil in every way. 5-Gallons is now running between $60-$75/USd and is available at any Farm&Home and auto supply.

If you go to KBC's website they sell their EZE way and spindle lubes for 27.50 to 30.00 cdn/US gallon
and flat rate of 11.00 for shipping. So unless your really hung up on Vactra you can save quite a bit there.
And lets face it for most lathe lubes say: way oil anything in a way lube will do fine-just the viscosity
to think about. Same goes for grease nipples and ball oilers generic will do fine. Its more about lubing
often enough not so much the brand name.
When it gets to spindle oils things get a bit more specific, but mostly the correct visosity for the bearings
involved.
The only situation I know of where it gets very oil specific is in something like the Variator on a Chipmaster
lathe where there is only 1 type of oil approved for use-warranty and longevity.

I get it at tractor supply..
Too many things going on to bother listing them.
Re: Way oil!....outrageously priced!
As good as Tractor Supply may be, according to their website they don't ship to Canada. That doesn't do the original poster (RSG) any good as he lives in Ontario. Great for you gents under the 49th though.

Canada is so cold 10wt oil just might substitute for way oil.

And they use Chain saws to cut holes in ice for fishing?
No wonder the bar lube works so well.
