Got a new Fiber Laser!
Got a new Fiber Laser!
Got a new toy! Now I can deep engrave metal and add logos to reels.
Heres a video of it in action deep engraving....

Re: Got a new Fiber Laser!
That looks like a nice compact unit, did you buy new ?
Re: Got a new Fiber Laser!
Very, very nice Ron. Does it have the capability of adding a 4th axis for doing radial engraving?
Re: Got a new Fiber Laser!
Way, way cool! The quality of your reels demands that level of excellence.
I'd enjoy seeing one of them after being so engraved. Be sure to post a picture for us.

LOL if your man enough to put your arm in it we'll give it a go

Yes I think it's the only way to buy a laser actually....there's no real way to know how many hours are on it otherwise or what power they ran it at and for how long.

Re: Got a new Fiber Laser!
Thanks Pete, yes you can add a 4th axis for round objects but I don't plan to at the moment.

Re: Got a new Fiber Laser!
Thanks Harold, Will do! I plan to utilise it for adding textures and things as well so the opportunities are limitless.

Re: Got a new Fiber Laser!
Cool it has that 4th axis capability. I don't know a whole lot about laser engraving other than it's possible to see effects with engraving depth and quality due to material type and sometimes even with different colors of anodizing on the parts. One person I know in the UK worked at a company that got a laser powerful enough to cut metal, and he mentioned the Z axis setting and X,Y speed was very critical on it, I suspect that might be true with one's like yous that can do engraving. It would be interesting once you've used yours enough to see if any of this is true or not.

Re: Got a new Fiber Laser!
What is the effective limit of optical xy travel?
Or is it defined by a radius?
Or is it defined by a radius?
Too many things going on to bother listing them.
Re: Got a new Fiber Laser!
The lens I have is 110mm x 110mm but I can buy a larger lens to go up to 220mm x 220mm. That's the thing about Fiber lasers, you have the capability to deep engrave depths like .02" in some cases on aluminium and steel and can engrave them leaving different shades of colour in the material with a variety of colours based on the power settings but your size window is limited.Bill Shields wrote: ↑Tue Nov 16, 2021 7:24 pm What is the effective limit of optical xy travel?

CO2 lasers have a much larger surface area but are limited to just marking anodised aluminium and can only cut plastics and wood up to a certain depth, again based on power.
Since I really have no use for cutting those materials I opted for the Fiber laser.
