Cutting oil holder

Post by John Evans »

A friend of mine who I guess is more of a klutz than me,gave me a holder that fits the T slots on the mill. Now I use the "Spill Master" oil cups but still you knock one off on to the floor they do splash out some. Anyway a PVC cap and a bit of scrap and presto something much harder to knock off and spill.

I’m not at home now so I’ll try to describe one without pictures. Hopefully I will remember to put the picture up later. A friend took a “pounder “ from Budweiser (which matters because of the small neck) and cut it off below the neck in the large diameter. Maybe 30-40 percent of the height off the top. Then flipped the neck upside down into the bottom. He duct taped the seam then glued a flat magnet to the bottom. He crimped the seam , but you have to replace the tape periodically. It doesn’t spill much on a floor drop. FYI the poor description here is so you can goof one up and need to make more raw materials'. Good luck and stay well.

Now that's a really clever idea John and one I'm going to be borrowing. Thanks. Should be simple to machine a bit of aluminum into the same tee slot size for attaching that holder somewhere around or on other machines as well since no real strength is needed.

PETE the pvc cap is a 3 inch drainpipe cap from lowes it fits the spill master cup perfect. I attach the cup to the aluminum t nut with a 10-32 flat head screw. i also made a set up for the lathe , I am the klutz

Empty tuna cans are the rule, because machinists eat tuna fish sandwiches for lunch.

I use Sterno heat chafing dish cans. The style with the small pop out center lid.
The cutting oil brush rests in it nicely and the hole edge is good for wiping the bristles.
When the chips accumulate, the hole is big enough for wiping out easily.
A magnet glued to the bottom can hold it in the T slot.
