Brownell's makes cosmoline under the name Rust Veto and sells it for $15 per pound, but you have to pay shipping. In my case, it would be about $19 before tax.

Ok, if you use the legal definition you're right.

Steve, thanks for the lanolin tip on eBay. Sometimes I go brain dead apparently. Iam going to buy some. I think I will try paint thinner as a solvent. I don’t mind rubbing the stuff in, so long as it is semimpaste like.
Also, a big problem in my unheated shop is all the small fixtures and tooling rusting up. Stuff like the rotary table, chucks, and DH. Really a nuisance to scrub the rust off anything that has nooks and crannies all over it. So looking forward to trying the lanolin, and storing these small bits in a plywood cabinet with a small light bulb for a bit of heat. Coated, warm and dry hopefully will do the trick.

Amazon, and others, sell a product developed for gun safes called Golden Rod. It is a heater and lately there is a version that does something to humidity. So you could use one of these in a box instead of a light bulb, but the Golden Rod is far more expensive. I have had one in my safe since the late '80s and it seems to work.
Just an alternative if you don't want to provide ambiance for the rodents.

I'm just plain right. If legislators adopted the terms, they took them from technical people who were already using them. They didn't do their own research.
This may be helpful: https://blink.ucsd.edu/safety/research- ... l/liquids/
Liquids produce vapor. A liquid like alcohol which produces easily ignited vapor at low temperatures is flammable. A liquid that requires higher temperatures, like diesel, is merely combustible. You can put a match out by throwing in in diesel.
It's interesting how we arrived at the use of "flammable" to refer to things that burned extremely easily. I have read that people used to use the word "inflammable," but it fell into disuse because it looked like it meant "flame retardant." Now we use "flammable."

Hi There,
I think we're arguing the difference between
"flammable" and "Inflammable."
Good Luck!

Steve, Steve, Steve, Yes,
flaming rabbits are very inflammatory!
Flammable creatures they are,
Streaking from burning bush to flaming plain,
Along their volvantric, pedantic, romantic trails,
Combustible nevermore,
Saith the hare.

Rabbits taste good, too.
Fortunately, they are not flammable, or they would over-cook.
I suppose their fur would make a dandy wipe for coating your machines with anti-rust stuff.
