Is this a quiz or a question? My guess is; it is a piece of lab gear, possibly for optics or laser experiments.

When I was a physics teaching assistant, we used stands that looked a lot like that.

I taught high school physics at Lane Tech H.S. for 33 years, we had drawers full of stuff like that, some of it dating back to the start of the school in 1908.

Likewise, the other science departments had similar stuff.

Of course, I, like you, sometimes wondered what the purpose of the object was, and I was teaching the subject!

You might try Googling Central Scientific, or one of the other companies that made such apparatus. There are old catalogs on line showing such apparatus.

Lane has ~ 5000 students, and most have to take physics in their Junior year.

Looks like car frame measuring Gage's that are used on a frame straightener with a laser. My company built parts for them years ago.

Thanks Folks. A friend got it from somewhere and thought it was machining equipment. I did not recognize it.
