Looking for wiring diagram for drum reversing switch
I have little 6x26 mill that has the pictured drum switch on it. It is currently wired for 110v and it works fine. I put a different motor on it and the motor start contacts will sometimes stick and i have to pry them apart. I was wanting to wire this motor for 220v and see if that might fix this problem since the current will be reduced. I do not have the wring diagram for the switch and can't seem to find one for this particular switch. Was hoping someone had the same switch or knows how to wire from 110 to 220 on this type of switch.
Re: Looking for wiring diagram for drum reversing switch
First, I'd seal it so that the metal chips don't get inside!

Yea I guess after 15 years some made it inside. I noticed that after opening it up. Figured it would generate some comments. But first I need to get it wired for 220v then second would be seal it.

Good Morning.
Make a point to point, terminal to terminal
work sheet, for the motor terminals and for
the switch. using common sense and the

Re: Looking for wiring diagram for drum reversing switch
737. Your switch is unfamiliar to me but I would like to acquire one like it. It seems very universal by having 4 drums and 16 terminals. The ones I have are 3 drums , 6 terminals and most of the diagrams show that type operation. The switch layers/wafers are arranged so in one position, a terminal source will connect directly to the opposite terminal. In reverse position, the layers have the other contacts to bridging contacts where the source is returned to the next terminal of the same side etc. When you see that bridge in the diagrams, it is because the terminals are using those contacts. I think yours has sets of ON/OFF switches which can be wired over to other terminals to make it do anything you need and have terminals to spare. Like Ken said; if you figure out that switch ...
Re: Looking for wiring diagram for drum reversing switch
I have a switch that looks just like the one pictured above. I got it on Amazon (3 Positions On-Off-On Changeover Control Rotary Cam Switch 20A ) built by Uxcel for $12.54 and used it to reverse a motor for my lathe.
Re: Looking for wiring diagram for drum reversing switch
Great. Does it have 16 terminals like the label suggests ? In run position #1 are all the contacts/ terminals, closed on one side as a separate switches and then the other side is open? I think that is how it is. Then it would be opposite in run position #2. With all these terminals, jumpers from one side to the other could switch more than motor direction.

Re: Looking for wiring diagram for drum reversing switch
Here is a pic of the part number spro if you want to try to find one.
The way it works is when in off all contacts are open when in fwd. contacts 1&2, 5&6, 9&10, and 13&14 are made, when in rev. contacts 3&4, 7&8, 11&12 and 15&16 are made. This switch looks as though you can do about anything with it when using the jumpers as needed.
I finally figured out the wiring of a Smith and Jones "harbor freight" 2hp motor to this switch in a 220v configuration. Works great.
The part number of the switch is HZ5D 10/1.7
