Wheel gauge question

Post by Gra2472 »

Good morning all

I have a couple wheel sets that bought a few years ago at an estate sale. I checked them out yesterday for a possible rail bike or hand car project that I am planning out thanks to the help of many of you good people. However, I found out that they do not match IBLS standards. The flanges and profiles look pretty good, but they are gauged to exactly 7.5” at the root of the flanges. The back to back is 7.25. They run around on my home track without any problem, even managing to get through the switches as slick as could be. I am wondering if I should bother with re-gauging them to IBLS standards so that I can take the hand car places with the rest of the collection, or if its “close enough.”

Thanks

Gauging to standard cannot hurt

However if it tracks ok through club switches...unless they actively gauge every piece of rolling stock...the old adage..IIABDFI
Too many things going on to bother listing them.
