FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Stories of the Nickel Plate Road with Doyle McCormack
BELLEVUE, OHIO – A man who has roots to one of America's greatest railroads will return to the heart of it to tell of its stories and much more.
Railroad preservationist extraordinaire, Doyle McCormack, will be sharing his experiences on the Nickel Plate Road during an event at the Mad River & NKP Museum in Bellevue, Ohio, on Saturday, May 16, 2020. The event is a fundraiser for the American Steam Railroad, which is currently restoring Reading locomotive 2100 in Cleveland.
McCormack's father used to work on the Nickel Plate Road, and he followed his footsteps into a lifelong career. The first locomotive he helped restore was one of the railroad's famous "Berkshire" type of steam locomotives back in the early 1960s; it was one of many engines he helped bring back to life over the next several decades. The most famous of which, Southern Pacific "Daylight" 4449, pulled the American Freedom Train across the country in 1975-76.

"Through the tens of thousands of miles he has traveled with the Daylight engine," said ASR president Steven Harvey, "Doyle has shown what can be done with a steam locomotive, even when it's decades since the last one ran in regular service."
McCormack will talk of his experiences with steam locomotives during the presentation, and even of the streamlined Alco PA diesel that he resurrected from a Mexico scrapyard and returned to its full Nickel Plate Road glory.

The event will start at 3:00 p.m. with tours of the museum and caboose rides. A catered dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the presentation and then Q&A to follow. Guests will be able to enjoy taking a look inside the cab Nickel Plate Road locomotive 757, one of the railroad's Berkshire locomotives that the museum has recently acquired.

Tickets are $105.00 per person, and more information about the event can be found at FireUp2100.org

American Steam Railroad Preservation Association is a non-profit dedicated to preserving experiences from railroading's golden age by saving historic railway equipment.
