We'll be traveling to western Montana and covering most of the western border of the state.
Other than Glacier National Park and Yellowstone, what do you recommend seeing there?
Any railroad-related things, like excursions?

Re: Western Montana travel
Steve,
If you fish, and enjoyable day can be had by hiring a guide and fishing the Missouri river for very large, hungry trout.
The scenery is nice and the river is paralleled by the (inactive) Montana Central RR (BNSF).
There are several fly fishing shops in Craig, MT, which was the starting point for two of my trips.
Regards,
Andy

Avoid areas on fire. Does not get as much press as other states, but is ongoing nonetheless.
Too many things going on to bother listing them.
