Got a pontoon boat that has a console with no storage in it.
Looking for options to store things like the registration paperwork.
Thinking there's some room inside the console and if I could find a retrofit box with a sealing, locking cover that would work.
There's also space to the pilot's right on the floor where I could bolt a box.
Was thinking about bolting an ammo box into one of the bench storage areas with a padlock on it for secure storage.
Anyone done something like this or have other ideas?

I guess HFT has those plastic ammo boxes on sale once in a while. I suspect they have a rubber seal as well, but I don't own any. That might be better than a metal ammo can.
Standards are so important that everyone must have their own...

The reason I'd have for metal would be for security vs plastic. This is fresh water, so while rust is an issue, it's not the issue it is with salt water.

Re: Boat storage / glove box
I have a few metal ones and a fiberglass one.
They're all really tough. I don't know how they coat the metal ones, but the corrosion resistance is amazing.
The weak point is (as usual) the padlock.
Of course any real thief these days has a battery powered angle grinder.
Put a lot of wood around it to deter the grinder.

Depending on how much "stuff" you need to store, semi trailers have an aluminum tube about 2" diameter with a rubber cup on each end and a bracket to mount it all. Perfect for registration and insurance certificate.

I'll need something larger than that for other stuff, but I could make something like that out of plastic pipe for the paperwork.
