Devcon paint on 2 part urethane
Too many things going on to bother listing them.
Re: Looking for some belt wisdom
Between this stuff you mentioned and the nylon strap suggestion.............I may have a working combination.
Thanks everyone. I'll let you know how it works in a few weeks when I'm done.

Kinda late to the party but what about rubber dental dam sheeting ?
You cut it to width providing you can get the length ( or width ) needed to make the belt circumfrence
and it's easily glued with contact cement .
It's been eons since I handled motion picture film, but I do remember Fuji motion picture film was a polyester
base, it was dreaded running thru film shuttles ( not shutters ) since it doesn't tear like the Kodak base does, if it jammed in
the camera shuttle a lot of damage would happen to the film shuttle movement.

Re: Looking for some belt wisdom
Look for the woven nylon strapping used to tie up bundles of wood etc- used to replace the old steel strapping. Probably a lot cheaper if you ask for strapping rather than belting. I cut a bunch of 3/4" wide straps this morning to get to some 2x6s.

Re: Looking for some belt wisdom
Dimensions of desired belt?
Too many things going on to bother listing them.
Re: Looking for some belt wisdom
From the first post:
"The belt would be flat, less than 5/8" wide, roughly 24' long "

Go to McMaster Carr and look up flat belts. They offer made to order, or you can buy by the foot.

I hope you have spring loaded tensioner(s)....
Too many things going on to bother listing them.
Re: Looking for some belt wisdom
Oh I've got to make those later too. After I modify a base from something else he dropped off to fit it to, mounting plate, find a motor, etc. It's going to be slow going for a while

Re: Looking for some belt wisdom
if you don't have at least one tensioner, you have not a chance of getting the belt length correct / everything to rotate as desired.
The weight of the motor can be the belt tensioner if you put it on some sort of hinge....

Agreed. And I'll keep the motor on a hinge in mind.
I'm still a long way away from actually getting to the belt though. Before I start a project I try to build it in my head and go through all the steps one at a time looking for gotcha's along the way. I hate getting part way through a project and realizing a design choice isn't going to work and starting over. It's a waste of time and money. Plus, the things I work on for this guy are usually antiques and one off pieces that get modified or combined so if I screw up, there may not BE a way to start over.
