Hi group;
Can anyone please advise me on the correct stress relief proceedure for class 30 grey iron?
I am making some straight edges from castings and I would like to have a minimum of distortion.
So far all I have been able to find out is that they should be rough machined, then heated to 950-1050F for 1hour per inch of thickness, and furnace cooled.
Is this correct?
Thanks
Pete

Re: Casting stress relief
Sounds about right. However not to sure about 30 gray. I always had my grey done around 1000 degrees and let the furnace cool down. Never had any problems.
