I did determine that my Speedy Melt came with a SC #16 crucible that is almost like new. I have no idea if the school that previously owned this foundry poured aluminum or brass with it. It is not obviously apparent to me just looking at the crucible to tell what was melted in it. Does it matter? I thought I heard somewhere that you should only melt one type of material with a crucible to not contaminate the material.
I haven't even started to setup the furnance, and I'm just trying to gather some information and knowledge.
aluminmum or brass using same crucible

Irontrader, I suppose at a theoretical leval yes it matters, but talking practically, if you can see nothing left in the crucible then the level of contamination will be very minimal.
Once you start using it though, confine it to one metal, because as the crucible ages more of previous melts will be left behind in the pot as the surface degrades
