Hopefully frank will post some pictures of the finished product before I pass on. Never did get an answer on the Ligan ( LOGAN ) I`m pretty sure . All done with the dome and installed on engine.

Here are the pictures that Don mentioned. The final part came out excellent after machining and polishing! Cant wait to see this engine finished!

A little locomotive with 4 wheels on the track is a lot more fun
than a 1/2 finished one with 16 wheels on the bench!

I have wondered about 3D printing for "lost wax/foam" type casts. Haven't had much to do with it.
Nice work though, piece looks good.
Like this? Shoukd be a BIG time saver!

I do both investment and sand casting. I can sand cast nonferrous metals at home but the investment casting I make the master pattern and then contract the work out.

The wax is kind of the easy part of investment casting - getting the wax in the investment and having vaccum casting equipment large enough for 1.5" live steam parts is kind of the hard part.

Frank, how did you machine the saddle to fit the boiler?

I tried cutting the saddle on a lathe and in a milling machine, but holding the dome securely is the problem, how did you secure it? I made a few practice domes to hone my skill for the real thing when the time comes...I had the domes come flying out of the mount, not good for the tool, machine or operator!
