Re: Deburring Blades

Thanks Bill, do you have any specific recommendations for the blades? I was definitely thinking Noga since I like the tool I have. They offer so many different ones that fit the NG1000 and similar handles. Most of my work is in steels and aluminum with some in brass; round holes and straight edges. ...

Deburring Blades

Until recently I thought a deburring blade was a deburring blade. As a Neanderthal I have used files for all deburring needs until recently. When I had to deburr a bunch of brass plates, all straight edges, I found that my Ruko E100 blade didn't like brass very much. It would either skip along witho...

Milling depth

When making side cuts into a workpiece how deep can/should a cut go relative to the diameter of the end mill? I tend to be very conservative because it's been easier to go slow than to replace end mills. The most recent project was making a tool something like a tap to clean out threads. They don't ...

Re: Drilling Holes In 3mm Aluminium Using Forstner Bits

Would using a hole saw be of interest? Imperial 3/4" is 19.05mm. A Diablo bimetal or carbide hole saw might be the solution you need. Kerosene or WD-40 makes a good lube in aluminum.

Re: The price of brass — gasp!

And this $ for the material is a surprise to you because...? Brass prices have been through the roof for years, and are not going down. Have not seen 10# of accumulated scrap brass in any metal yard for 10 years. Since I machine brass for the battleship as needed I was aware of the cost; not a surp...

Re: The price of brass — gasp!

The Battleship Texas Foundation bought brass plates to replace some originals that have disappeared along the way. There are 66 pieces that total almost 19 sq ft. (1.765 sq meters) and the weight is about 156 pounds/70.7 kg. They had it all cut to size on a shear and the necessary openings for fuse ...

Re: Decent Import Carbide Lathe Tools

Yes, they are imports to the US. ISCAR is Israeli. Maybe I titled the thread wrong since "import" really meant "cheap Asian." Reverse calculating it turns out that for the nice finish on .500" OD the SFPM was only 73 for the final pass. DOC was only 0.0015". Feed...

Now I understand!

OK, I understand much better now. After getting the cheap DCMT tool holders and inserts I ran across a guy on Marketplace selling some Iscar inserts that fit my new holders at an attractive price. The photos seemed to be of new old stock factory sealed Iscar inserts. A little research on the specifi...

Re: coolant question

Maybe someone that has used lots of Kool Mist can speak to its corrosion properties better than me. The Kool Mist company claims that it won’t create rust when mixed with water. Kool Mist doesn’t seem to be an emulsion as it remains clear after mixing with water. I’ve been mixing it in a hand pump s...

Re: Decent Import Carbide Lathe Tools

Thanks, Harold. It’s not boring at all. Education takes many forms and I would say that you’re highly educated in the subjects you know. My Dad farmed out work to machine shops in the Houston area in the 1960s. Many had taken on NASA work and they had a rough time passing the standards NASA demanded...
