Re: Bolt it down, or no?
Well, a timely and thought provoking answer. Thank you, this helps more than you know. Yes, 1-1/2 inches is all the more I can get into the concrete using a lag screw or bolt. And no, I don't want the blisters... I have seen them before. One of the things I was trying to avoid was undoing the riggin...

Bolt it down, or no?
I got a new G0755 mill delivered today, and with some effort into my garage. As suggested in the title, is bolting it to the concrete floor a worthwhile endeavor? If so, are the "drop in" anchors good enough? Those are the ones you drop in a drilled hole, smack with a punch tool and then y...

I am glad you found something you can step into. I've been there; severance and retention bonuses lose their luster when they have to be used to supplement an extended unemployment.
I think it would be cool to own a machine you know so much back story about. Good luck there!

Re: Why People Prefer Imperial to Metric

(almost) everything you buy, excluding beverages, is in an even or round fractional Imperial unit (pint, half-gallon, 1/4 pounder). So part of this was ex...

Re: New owner of Grizzly G4015Z
I have a G9972, which is a similar 3N1 machine (lathe is longer) but the mill head only has a swing, and two locking mechanisms. I have never had an issue with the head moving. However, I never found a need for loosening the head from it's normal center position... it just stays there and I move the...

Re: Measuring Vacuum
A complete vacuum will be above a 30 inch column of Mercury, or a 30-ish foot column of water. Exact values depend on the current barometric pressure, since that is pushing the fluid up rather than the vacuum actually pulling on anything.

Re: Surgery Recovery Project
I had a hip replaced 19 years ago. I don't jog or jump rope, but have pretty much no restrictions on what I can do. While I was "healed" in 6 weeks, it took a couple of years before I quit noticing my right and left hips were different. As bad as my hip was, I would have spent most of the ...
